World Youth Day 2016 updates

An event must be powerful if more than 21,000 people around the world are willing to sacrifice their jobs, family and vacation time for it.

This event is World Youth Day (WYD) in Krakow, Poland, this July, where the 21,000 youth who applied to be short-term volunteers. From these applications, 10,000 were chosen: 3,000 international and 7,000 Polish volunteers.

The Krakow staff has been publishing videos highlighting who these volunteers are, how they are preparing for WYD and what they do for a living. Through these videos, they are hoping to recruit more Polish short-term volunteers during the next couple weeks as well.

To help in this regard, they published a video with international youth lining up on a track and leaving their jobs to all join in one place, Krakow.

These short-term volunteers give of their time during the second half of July, when pilgrims will be traveling to Poland from all over the world. Many volunteers have never before attended a WYD, but will gain this experience while serving the community.

Leading up the event, 54 long-term volunteers from 18 different countries are working tirelessly. They have left their families, jobs and homes to be a part of the legacy Saint John Paul II started in 1986 with the first youth encounter, and Pope Francis still continues to this day. … …
